Did anyone think that the stand-up cut-outs that Wil posted to his blog for Tabletop Day kind of looked like King of Tokyo monsters? I did, so last night I made these. :)
I scaled the images down to about 3.75 inches tall, printed front and back versions and glued them to some 4-ply mat board and got WHEEEEATON! and Day of Destruction ready to bring ruin to the city of Tokyo. They fit very well into the plastic stands. They needed some monster boards so a couple hours later… :) This morning I printed everything out and assembled the boards. Right now the number disks are just held on with thumb tacks so I’m going to need to find something more permanent.
If anyone wants to print their own copies, I uploaded a pdf to my Google drive account here. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByD1Q_nbLnhvSHM4T1pJU2NJa1k/edit?usp=sharing
I also put the full size pages as jpegs in this post but I’m not sure if my settings will allow them to be downloaded so they are also available on imgur here:

This is what wearing Google glasses is like.
This is absolutely incredible.
When it comes out, it will cost a million dollars and have a million bugs and limitations.
When it’s been out for a couple of years, it will be cool as motherfucking fuck.
I have no words. It’s so awe-inspiring, even in concept.

Royal Mail reveals Doctor Who stamps
The collection marks the 50th anniversary of sci-fi show Doctor Who, with all 11 Doctors getting their own first class stamp.
Four of the show’s most notorious villains, including the Daleks and the Cybermen, star on the second class set.
The show first ran from 1963 to 1989. A successful revival returned it to Saturday night schedules in 2005.
Andrew Hammond of the Royal Mail said the commemorative selection “pay tribute to the brilliant actors that have played the Doctor over the years, as well as the adversaries that helped make the show so popular”
Gimme all the Doctor Who stamps!!!
I love these because not only can you see the different Doctors from over the years, but also you can see the evolution of the opening sequence shots and the logo!

THIS INSTRUMENT IS CALLED THE KALIMBA. THIS IS FATE.
holy shit
this is the best kalimba playing i’ve ever seen EVER
I HAD NO IDEA WHAT A KALIMBA LOOKED LIKE UNTIL JUST THIS SECOND IM BLOWN AWAY
I had one of these as a kid, they’re fun but they hurt your thumbs unless you build up some wicked calluses.
Oh god. A new instrument to madly desire.
This looks easier to find than the hurdy-gurdy, maybe I’ll look for one. Seems like the sort of instrument that would be difficult to master though.

So, after ages and ages of planning to sit down and read the archives from start to finish I finally read Todd Allison and the Petunia Violet. Now, before you smack me over the head with a break chanting ‘why haven’t you already done this you idiot’ let me explain.
I started follow Nozmo’s comics from pretty much Day One, and that includes Todd Allison and Co. I’ve always really loved her art and her characters and her stories- her stuff inspires me to create things like whoa so it’s no surprise that I like it.
In fact, before I even started reading Todd Allison and the Petunia Violet I already knew that I loved it. I loved it so much that I was afraid to read it. It was like getting a huge crush on someone and then being scared to ask them out because what if something goes wrong and you ruin it (like I always do)?! I wanted to be sure that I could read it all at once- no interruptions- and just love every single second of it.
And sometimes you just have to be in the mood for awesome.
Well, I was in the mood for awesome.
Hence reading it.

UNIQLO Calendar
It’s not just a calendar it’s an interactive calendar and weather tool, a video slideshow of the various prefectures of Japan and music by Fantastic Plastic Machine. Oh, and it’s also one of the coolest advertising tools I’ve seen on the whole of the internets. You can click in the video itself to pause it and see thumbnails of UNIQLO items that match the colours and/or patterns from the paused video.
I can’t explain how cool this really is. I only wish I could get it to show the local weather (Chicago is the closest I can get). I think I might look into the screensaver version anyway though.

New High-Quality Free Fonts
My personal faves from this list are Matilde, Maven Pro, Five Minutes and Novecento. The website to download Novecento is also really cool.

I want to live here so badly. This is just TOO COOL. I mean, the living space keeps you in shape. That’s just amazing. He no longer lives there, I wonder what he sold it for? I imagine quite a pretty penny!

KILL YOURSELF.
I have lots of cool things to say about this game:
First off, I really sucked at it. I ranked like 116th today on AdultSwim games, though admittedly I was playing it to reach the ending more than trying to collect all the gems, so my score was understandably low (I collected 13/30). I died over 100 times though, which is not at all a difficult thing to achieve in this game. Of course the point is that you do need to die, but the 100 deaths were “failed reincarnations”- in other words I failed the room and ran out of bodies to inhabit. I played for 1 hour 5 minutes before reaching “the ending”.
It’s a platformer+puzzle game, two genre I am really weak at playing. Like most games of its kind, the running, jumping and avoiding obstacles is all about timing (of which I have none) and patience (of which I have very little). I died a lot because I wouldn’t pay attention to the whole room and I’d make the same mistakes over and over trying to rush through it. People who are good with platformers would definitely ace this compared to me though. The controls are super-simple and the mechanics are pretty straight forward.
As usual though I looked past the fact that I mostly sucked at it and focused on the game itself. I love the pixel art graphics. The designs, patterns and most notably the colour schemes were really awesome. The art direction in general was just really cool and inspiring. I wish I’d played this before my Game On! pixel project was assigned, I probably could have come up with some great stuff.
Next is the characters! They were cute because they’re pixels, but there was another level of adorableness that I can only compare to the affection many kids felt for their first and second gen Tamagotchi characters. I actually found it a little difficult to kill them off at first (empathy for pixels, i haz it) but you can’t really help it, that’s sort of the point of the game. Of course the cat-like one, Nemo, was my favourite though I also really liked Kobayashi (because he’s a cube). The random info on them was pretty funny too. The characters were not quite as one-dimensional (pun…intended?) as you would expect.
All of that being said, you should totally play this game! If you’re impatient like me, it might even help you calm down. The music and graphics are really cheery too, so even when I was frustrated I didn’t feel like quitting.
